simon cowell is back this year and is determined to make the x factor as popular as it once was, and so far it seems to be working with the new series of the x factor uk.

lets have a quick run down of some of the past x factor stars if you have forgotten any of them.

way back to the first series of x factor in 2004, the winner was steve brookstein, who received 6 million votes, which was a record amount of public phone votes then and now for the x factor and how many people pick up the phone to vote for who they want to win.

x factor series 2 back in 2005 and the winner was shayne ward, has been quite successful and lasted 5 years on simon cowell's syco record label, and has also stared on many celebrity tv shows as well.

series three of x factor in 2006 and one of the most successful contestants so far was leona lewis.

series 4 and and x factor uk 2007 leon jackson the scottish winner of x factor, who has not had the success of leona, even though they do share the same first name.

alaxandra burke was the winner of season 5 of x factor 2008 and has also been very successful not quite as much as leona, but more then most of the other previous x factor winners.

x factor 2009 winner joe mcelderry has had a steady career so far from winning the x factor uk.

matt cardle from the x factor 2010 has been quite successful as well, probably more so then joe, but not as much as leona.

the x factor 2011 created little mix who are still riding a wave of success.

james arthur from x factor 2012 has already had quite a topsy turvy career since winning the x factor 2 years ago, but it is still early days in his singing career to see how well he will do from being a x factor winner.

last years winner of x factor 2013 sam bailey has already had a great start and been very successful since winning last years x factor finals.
